Regulations for shipping dangerous goods: ADR and dangerous goods points

There are several legal regulations that must be observed when transporting dangerous goods to ensure the process runs as smoothly as possible. The European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and dangerous goods points are particularly important in this context.

      ADR dangerous goods

The ADR (Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route) is a fundamental set of rules for the safe and compliant transport of dangerous goods by road. It classifies dangerous goods into specific dangerous goods classes and defines precise safety standards that freight forwarders must comply with when repackaging, labelling and transporting dangerous materials. It is therefore essential for us and our transport partners to provide truck drivers and logistics employees with regular training in accordance with ADR certification requirements to ensure compliance and minimise risks.

      Calculate dangerous goods points

To calculate the danger points for transporting dangerous goods, a material-specific factor based on the level of danger is multiplied by the weight or volume of the dangerous goods. If packaged goods have a score below 1,000 points, fewer regulations need to be observed. In this case, the truck driver does not require an ADR certificate and the transport unit does not need to display the dangerous goods markings that would otherwise be required.
Our platform calculates the danger points automatically during booking, making it easier to determine exemption quantities. Properly transporting dangerous goods in compliance with legal requirements can prevent fines and therefore save costs.

Labelling for the transport of dangerous goods

Correct labelling is a key safety measure when transporting dangerous goods. Every package must display clear, clearly visible markings indicating the type of dangerous goods, the dangerous goods class and any necessary precautions. On request, we will be happy to send you the required labels so that you only need to print and attach them. Simply contact our customer support.

These include danger labels, UN numbers and additional warnings such as dangerous goods stickers. Compliance with labelling requirements is required by law and ensures that everyone involved in the transport process, as well as emergency responders, can be informed immediately and clearly in an emergency.
